Meet Mr. Dave (73), is a widower from Magalane Village which lies about 10 km from the AFCA base in Matobo District in Southern Zimbabwe. Mr Dave was highlighted by the local village health worker as being a vulnerable person in the area and we were asked if we could assist by building a LooLove toilet unit for him. This unit was constructed toward the end of 2023.
Mr. Dave says this has been a huge blessing to him and when you compare his old facility with his new "palace" as he calls it you can see why!! Zimbabwe is right in the middle of a huge cholera outbreak at the moment that started in the cities and towns but is now spreading it's vile tentacles into our rural areas as well and many people are ill with it right now. The local health department has been holding meetings to explain to the community how easily cholera can be contracted and spread and also the precautions to take to avoid being infected. One of these measures is to have safe and hygienic latrine facilities and practices, including hand washing.
Mr. Dave says that he installed his own "tippy tap" hand washing system and that ever since his neighbors became aware of the spread of cholera they have asked if they could also use his LooLove whilst they build their own unit. Good on you Mr. Dave!!
