Thomas is one of three local qualified builders recruited by AFCA to build LooLove Toilets in his village of Silobi and the two nearby villages of Sighiti and Magalane in the Matobo District of Southern Zimbabwe. The AFCA LooLove program builds approved toilet units for vulnerable families in order to provide them with a safe sanitation system for them. This is a big deal in rural Zimbabwe where almost 50% of rural families do not have access to such facilities. The country has experienced several deadly cholera and dysentery outbreaks over the last few years so this initiative is of vital importance.
Thomas was allocated 25 units to build at the beginning of 2025 and to date has completed 23 of them with the remaining 2 set to be completed in February 2026. He has used the money earned from his building efforts to start a poultry project of 1,000 chickens, buy a new bicycle and even afford a lovely wedding ceremony (that had been promised to his wife Karen when they were married in court 18 years ago). We think all three of the above are very smart investments.....well done, Thomas.
Thank you AFCA, you are changing people's lives for the better from many different perspectives with this LooLove program.
The team here at the American Foundation for Children with AIDS thanks you for supporting this project and the work we do for the children in Africa. If you would like to learn even more about what we do or how you can meet some of the children you have helped, please contact Tanya Weaver at tweaver@AFCAids.org.
