What We Done with the Earthquake Donations

By Sebnem Belfin Utkan | International Relations Officer

After the terrifying disaster on February 6th, like everyone else in the country, we immediately started working. As an institution with over 75,000 registered patients nationwide, the earthquake that affected 10 cities also impacted many of our patients.

LÖSEV, Health and Education Center for Children with Leukemia, mobilized, with its volunteers, recovered youth, family committees and employees to heal the wounds caused by the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaras and led on to affect 10 other provinces. LÖSEV, which established an Emergency Crisis Desk in the first hours after the earthquake, called for the preparation of basic needs to deliver them through the "Goodness Trucks" to the disaster areas. LÖSEV employees, donors, volunteers and family committees created an aid chain with the incoming donations by separating and classifying them meticulously. Then the boxes were loaded to aid trucks. The aid, packaged in different categories such as food and baby products, blankets, heaters, clothing and hygiene products, set out to be delivered to earthquake victims in need. On the other hand, 8 liaison offices, including the LÖSEV Ankara headquarters, reached nearly 7,000 registered patients in the earthquake zones to determine their needs and assured them, that the Goodness Trucks would reach their regions.

In the week following the disaster, LÖSEV sent 10 aid trucks to Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Malatya, Adyaman, Kilis and Osmaniye. It provided accommodation services to more than 250 evacuated cancer patients and their families in various provinces. The Village for Children with Leukemia in Ankara opened its doors to 50 earthquake-affected families. The victims and their relatives were also visited and their needs were determined and delivered to them. LÖSANTE Hospital, which was built with donations, provided free healthcare to nearly 100 earthquake victims.LÖSEV also announced the good news on their social media account that pregnant earthquake victims gave birth at LÖSANTE Hospital, the children of hope, were born healthy.
