On the morning of February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck Kahramanmaras in eastern Turkey, affecting nine different cities. This disaster was compounded by a second earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurring nine hours later. According to official reports, the earthquakes have impacted over 13.5 million people, with the death toll surpassing 13,000. Over 12,000 houses and buildings have been reported as collapsed or severely damaged.
Fundraising Goal
Our goal is to raise $200,000 to support the affected individuals, particularly focusing on those with leukemia and cancer, who are part of our foundation's support network. As of now, we have raised $11,270, leaving a remaining need of $188,730. We have received contributions from 53 donors so far.
Current Challenges
The aftermath of the earthquakes is being exacerbated by adverse weather conditions, which have made living conditions even more challenging for the survivors. Many individuals were caught in the disaster while they were asleep and are now lacking appropriate clothing and shelter. There is an urgent need for clean water, winter clothes, blankets, food, safe shelter, and medical supplies.
Solution and Impact
Cancer is already a challenging disease, and the earthquake has only increased the despair among patients and their families. Your donations are crucial in providing immediate and long-term assistance. The funds will be allocated to:
- Long-term treatment costs for cancer patients
- Temporary accommodation for displaced families
- Provision of food and beverages
- Clothing and winter supplies
- Other essential needs
We have over 70,000 children and adults with leukemia and cancer registered with our foundation, including more than 5,000 patients living in the affected area, many of whom have lost their homes.
Conclusion
To achieve our $200,000 goal and provide the necessary support, we still require $188,730. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this disaster. Your generosity will help us deliver vital support and care to those in need.
