October marks the one year anniversary of the Resilient Housing Initiative (RHI), a joint collaboration between Love City Strong, the St. John Community Foundation's Disaster Case Managers, All Hands & Hearts, and Kenny Chesney's Love for Love City.
Our goal of completing 40 homes total in this program is more achievable than ever thanks to your generous support!
We are proud to say that RHI has now completed 25 homes! We have 7 homes currently under construction, which we expect to be finished by the end of the year. The remaining 8 St. John homes are waiting patiently for us to fundraise enough money to get their rebuilds started.
The majority of the homes built through RHI are full builds from the ground up—And every home is the primary residence of a permanent St. John resident who are all seniors, families with small children, or persons with a disability or nonemergency medical need.
For RHI, Love City Strong pays 3 licensed, St. John-based construction companies for the builds, and multiple St. John businesses are utilized for deliveries of building materials, concrete work, painting, plumbing, electrician work, and more. These skilled individuals work alongside the Love City Strong and Love for Love City teams on each build. We have always believed that it is important to utilize the professional talent and skills of St. John residents and businesses for all of our projects, rather than outsourcing to individuals or companies from outside of the territory. This has always been and will continue to be the guiding principle of this project.
Our GlobalGiving fundraising goal of $100,000 will allow us to reach our goal of 40 homes total. There are so many individuals in need of home repairs on St. John, and we want to be able to assist as many of them as we can. Your donations really do make a difference to both our clients and to our construction crews. Without your help, none of what we have accomplished in RHI would be possible.
