This Tuesday, December 3 is known as Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: A day that encourages people to do good. Over the years it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. This year, you can join the movement by supporting LCS and our Resilient Housing Initiative (RHI).
RHI is now the longest-running home rebuild program on St. John since Hurricanes Irma and Maria struck the island in 2017. It involves 4 nonprofit organizations, 3 dedicated St. John-based construction companies, and dozens of St. John businesses across multiple sectors all working towards a common goal: Bringing St. John residents home.
As of today, the program has rebuilt 27 homes, with 6 more currently under construction. All of the homes being rebuilt by RHI belong to full-time St. John residents, with priority given to those who are a member of one or more of the following categories: Seniors, families with young children and infants, pregnant women, residents with a disability or chronic health condition, and individuals with severe economic roadblocks preventing them from engaging in home rebuild. Our goal is to complete at least 40 homes by the end of 2020.
One of the things that sets RHI apart from other home rebuild programs is that the cost to the homeowner is virtually nonexistent. This is all thanks to our generous donors and our partners in this program--None of this is possible without your support. This Giving Tuesday, please consider a donation to RHI. We believe in this program, and with your help we can continue to make a difference.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can receive an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
