Since launching Luz on GlobalGiving, we have been able to collect online donations to help young people with albinism.
A bottle of sunscreen in Vilanculos is $20 to $30 USD.
It's just bonkers considering that Mozambique is one of the ten poorest countries on earth. People with formal jobs are expected to take care of at least 10 other family members, even with a salary of just two hundred dollars per month. This means that sunscreen is out of reach for 99% of the population. But it's also ESSENTIAL for people with albinism. That's where you come in.
So far this year, we have been able to donate sunscreen to 10 people with albinism, including Picardo.
Picardo is a young man who loves gardening but has not been able to find steady work. In his free time, he writes songs. It would be impossible for him to buy sunscreen in the shop, but thanks to the Luz project, he is still able to protect himself with sunscreen everyday.
Help us ensure that young people like Picardo, have regular access to lifesaving sunscreen, to protect their skin from blisters, burns and cancer.
