Major Alliance Education Centre (MAEC) empowered the most vulnerable girls and women with ordinary secondary education through non formal education in Young Mothers 'Tutoring Program whereby 82 young mothers completed form four and awarded ordinary certificates of secondary school. Young mothers are the youth aged 14-25 who were expelled from schools because of pregnancy. Currently MAEC is seeking the support to continue empowering them on vocational training which will be one year project.
Currently there are more than 70,000 girls who were expelled out of school since 2015 in Tanzania due to pregnancy (Report from TWAWEZA, UNICEF, TDHS, and Centre for reproductive Right-CRR). The reports show that the dropping rate of girls is 30% every year which is a big number. The right of education denied to girls creates poverty to them since education is a foundation of life to every human kind. MAEC will empower 120 young mothers and girls on vocational training in Bukoba district.
Training to young mothers and girls in tailoring, computer literacy and secretarial course will enable them to increase the skills, avail jobs opportunities in industries and companies. Together with entrepreneurial training and secretarial course provided, will enable them to gain access to credit and other opportunities to expand their businesses through the formation of saving groups and loan association.
12O young mothers and girls enabled to gain skills on vocational training and entrepreneurial skills will be able to establish their entrepreneurial businesses through self employment and so to manage their life, also education and empowerment provided will strengthen the will power of the women
