We are a non-profit organization called Unidad de Apoyo Integral para los Habitantes del Cano La Pica, ASOPICA, A.C. since 2003. We run a boarding school called Escuela Integral "La Coromoto" in the southern plains (llanos) of Venezuela. We provide education and comprehensive care, school uniforms and supplies, transportation, health care and recreation from preschool to 6th grade of elementary school for 60 children of the Yaruro/Pume indigenous people every academic year.
The general life conditions are precarious, the basic needs are met with difficulty, thus affecting all the members of the family, especially all the minors in vulnerable situation. The problems that stand out most are poverty and the lack of opportunities for children, whether school educated or not, which reduces their possibilities for personal and professional development. Indicators of low school education, unemployment, few work sources, among others.
Our current enrollment is 60 students who attend under the modality of internship, from preschool to sixth grade of primary education. They stay three weeks a month at school. During their stay at "La Coromoto", they receive a free balanced food service, health care, supplies, recreation, transportation and civic Christian values. Sponsoring a student reaches the monthly sum of $ 100, which allows us to meet the demanding requirements of providing comprehensive care and education.
Promote the future of the Yaruro / Pume children. Empower the girls of the community by humanizing and making their lives more dignified. Promote social inclusion by offering the opportunities to overcome the barriers of exclusion and marginalization. Provide access to quality education, which otherwise they probably would not have had, through the Integral School "La Coromoto".
