Integrating TVP into Tanzania's Health Services

Tanzania is striving to strengthen responsive, compassionate caregiving within its national child health services. Yet many caregivers still struggle with patience, gentleness, and consistent non-violent parenting virtues essential for a child’s emotional and spiritual growth.

With support from GlobalGiving, we continued our commitment to bringing The Five Strategies of The Virtues Project into this national effort. By offering simple, uplifting tools that restore dignity, mindfulness, and empathy in family life, TVP helps caregivers practise nurturing care with greater confidence and compassion.

From July to October, our work focused on building unity, shared purpose, and integrity within national systems that guide early childhood development.

With humility and dedication, we contributed to the Ministry of Health’s working session to draft the first National Multisectoral ECD Program (NM-ECDP) action plan. During this process, we:

  • Encouraged the use of virtue-based language as a foundation for responsive caregiving
  • Demonstrated how the Five Strategies can help community health workers (CHWs) inspire trust, respect, and peaceful communication with parents
  • Highlighted the alignment between TVP and the new CHW curriculum, which promotes child protection, positive communication, and social well-being
  • Strengthened understanding among national stakeholders that virtues offer a practical, humanizing approach to nurturing care and non-violent parenting

Participants expressed appreciation for how easily the virtues can be woven into everyday health counselling, giving CHWs and parents meaningful ways to foster love, patience, and responsibility in their homes.

As we move into the next phase, our focus is to ensure that the action plan fully reflects the spirit of compassionate, non-violent caregiving supported by the virtues.

Our upcoming goals include:

  • Continuing to participate in national and regional review sessions
  • Supporting the Ministry of Health as it finalizes guidelines and tools for CHWs
  • Creating simplified and translated virtues-based materials for parents
  • Developing coaching resources and demonstrations for community use

Your continued generosity enables us to sustain this presence, provide technical support, and expand the reach of virtues-based nurturing care across Tanzania. Each contribution strengthens our ability to bring hope, dignity, and loving guidance to families raising young children.

Together, we are fostering a future where every child is nurtured with compassion, patience, and respect and where caregivers are empowered to bring out the best in themselves and in their families.
