Ki Culture Activities: June - October 2020

By Rida Arif Siddiqui | Fundraising Coordinator

With the launch of its ‘Making Culture Sustainable Globally’ project (https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/making-culture-sustainable-globally/), Stichting Ki Culture became GlobalGiving’s permanent partner in June 2020. Later, in September, the ‘Sustainability Ambassador Program’ project (https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/sustainability-ambassador-program/) was launched. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, both projects were jointly able to collect a total of 7,219 Euros! The projects continue to remain active, and any donations will go a long way in helping Ki Culture achieve its mission of contributing to a sustainable future through the cultural sector.

Sustainability Ambassador Program

The Sustainability Ambassador Program provides cultural professionals and institutions across the globe with everything they need to become more sustainable in their jobs. So far, interest has been expressed from cultural heritage professionals as well as institutions across the globe, from Colombia to the United States and China. Recruitment of participants is currently underway for the launch of the Program, scheduled for January 2021.

The Ki Books form an integral part of the Sustainability Ambassador Program. Each of the Ki Books are specially designed by experts from various fields to find sustainable solutions for cultural professionals. Some of the experts involved in developing the Ki Books include Victoria Burrows (World Green Building Council), Elizabeth Bagley (California Academy of Sciences), and Pia Edqvist (University of Oslo). Work is currently underway to produce the Energy, Waste and Materials, and Social Sustainability Ki Books. The Ki Books will be free and available for download on the Ki Culture website as of January 2021. In addition, the launch of the Student Sustainability Ambassador Program by Sustainability in Conservation (SiC), a branch of Ki Culture, took place in October, with students from 22 universities across the globe participating in the Program.

Partnerships

Ki Culture has entered into exciting new partnerships! These include the support of the University of Amsterdam, who will be sponsoring the first event in Ki Culture’s Sustainability Summit series. Last month, Ki Culture became a nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, and is looking forward to creating partnerships with businesses to work towards a sustainable future.

Ki Culture is also in the process of developing exhibitions in partnership with La Fresque du Climat. The project aims to bring the existing climate collage game into museums, and adapt it to create a fulfilling, informative and engaging museum experience. Another partnership with Plastic Pollution Solutions will be working towards helping organizations reduce their single-use plastic footprint. In October, Ki Culture’s work on sustainability will be featured by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS).

Ki Team

The Ki team is expanding, and now comprises 28 members! Over the past few months, several new members have joined the team from across the globe, including Hong Kong, Rwanda, India, Mexico, and the United States.

Ki Culture’s Founder and Executive Director Caitlin Southwick was invited as the keynote speaker for the Icelandic Museums Association’s annual meeting. She was also invited to present at the KlimaHaus symposium in Bremerhaven.
