The boat "Mleci - Center for Global Nonkilling" is a property of Glenn Paige Nonkilling School . It just completed two years of navigation on Lake Tanganyika.
After faithful service, some planks of the boat are deteriorated and rotted in regular contact with the lake water.
We planned during this summer holidays (July, August) to put the boat in dry dock and repair (remove and replace the damaged wooden planks). We targeted 82 planks. Work will be completed in early September 2016. One of the sailors said "mtumbwi unapashwa ukarabatiwe hizi miezi miwili ili utembee vizuri mwanzoni mwa shule " This Kiswahili sentence means “the boat must be repaired during these two months so it can sail well in the next school year”
As for the engine 55 uses the boat, it is very old. It broke down during this school year three times. This engine is currently being repaired in Kigoma (Tanzania).
Through this project we hope to complete the funds needed to buy the new engine (75 horsepower) suitable for boat.
We sincerely thank our donors who made profitability of our school their concern, and who think of nonkilling future of humanity.
Thank you for suggestions to improve our project.
Best nonkilling.
