Our boat, the only source of revenue and self-financing for our school, is called Glenn Paige Nonkilling School Boat and is a 30-ton wooden boat that transports people and goods on Lake Tanganyika between the different points of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania. It bears the Congolese flag and the signs of Nonkilling and Peace.
We obtained it by a friend's donation in 2014. After having sailed for almost three and a half years and filled with good services, some pieces of wood are very worn and others are rotten. This requires systematic replacement of any non-viable board. It is a delicate operation of sorting the bad woods of the good. But also to look for a good form of stability of the coke allowing a sound navigation and an easy handling.
We have to look for some wood from Tanzania to fit the part that carries the engine and the back part that carries the ink. It is one of the hardest and most expensive woods in the region.
We also expect the amount to be effective to purchase the new suitable engine (75 horsepower).
The improvement (restoration) of our boat combined with the powerful engine will certainly make our boat more profitable.
In this regard the Headmaster said in French “ Le boat doit être rentable pour perpétuer l’Ecole qui porte un illustre nom “ that means in English "The boat must be profitable to perpetuate the School which bears an illustrious name".
We warmly thank our various donors for their generosity and together we bear the standard of Peace for the advent of a Nonkilling Society.
Your suggestions and advice are welcome.
No more killing !
Happy Easter to all !
