Children and their families affected by the Mayon volcano eruption need your help! The June 13 Mayon volcano eruption has forced more than 13,000 residents, including small children, to take refuge in 22 evacuation centers in Albay province. We are providing immediate and lifesaving assistance including multipurpose cash assistance, psychosocial support, and support for learning continuity for affected learners.
Because of the congestion of displaced population in the schools, the learning continuity of 27,000 children is threatened. There's a lack of safe comfortable learning spaces that make the situation difficult for children and teachers to handle. The prolonged displacement would also result to prolonged use of schools as evacuation center. Farmers are affected and could result to their food insecurity and inability to provide for the basic necessities of their children and the entire family.
Save the Children is mounting a 6-moth emergency response that will focus on Safe Learning Continuity by supporting the modular learning of children, summer learning camps, set up temporary learning spaces, and distribution of teaching supplies. We will also provide Mental Health and Psychosocial Support to children and caregivers. We will also provide multi-purpose cash assistance to affected families, especially farmers.
We hope to reach about 10,000 individuals, 2,000 of which are children, in the evacuation centers in Albay during the duration of our emergency response.
