1 in 4 Canadians are living in food insecure households. Food bank visits continue to be on the rise and the demographic of people who need to access these services is changing. More is needed to support those facing food insecurity. GlobalMedic's McAntony's Menu is a unique way to think about food donation and does not compete with the existing food bank system. Using the power of volunteers and robust supply chains, we are able to help fill our partners shelves with essential pantry items.
Food insecurity in Canada is a ballooning issue. 1 in 4 Canadians reside in a food insecure household and there were over 2.2 million food bank visits in March 2025 alone. As the demand for food from these services continues to rise, food banks are struggling to keep up. There is an urgent need to support these entities so that they can continue to meet the increasing demand for food. Creative solutions are required to maximize the impact the sector's shrinking resources can make.
The McAntony's Menu program mobilizes volunteers and our existing supply chains in order to create 500g bags of pantry staples like rice, lentils and kidney beans. Volunteers fill these individual bags with food from large 50 lb bags. These bags are boxed up and then delivered to food banks and other support programs to support their clients. Donating food in this way allows us to give a 500g bag of food to a family for a third to a quarter of the retail price.
McAntony's Menu is not meant to compete with existing food support services but rather to complement a heavily utilized system. The program is a unique way to think about and approach food donation. Because we make bulk orders of products in large sizes, we make the most of our buying power. Utilizing volunteers allows the cost of creating this product to remain so low. The partners we work with are able to ensure these nutritious pantry stables are available to their clients.
