Rosie's Place Food Programs -Year End Update 2023

By Julie Royce | Development Associate

The poor and homeless women who come to Rosie’s Place have limited accessor uncertainty surrounding their basic needs for food, shelter, and safety. Rarely are they in a position to address their social and emotional health or to develop long-term plans around housing and employment. Thanks to your support of our Food Program through GlobalGiving, women in the Boston area can rely on Rosie’s Place for emergency food assistance, shelter, and wellness support.

At Rosie’s Place, the importance of food as part of our commitment to women’s health and wellness cannot be underscored enough. Our growing Food Program includes both wholesome, nutritious, and culturally inclusive meals in our Dining Room and healthy, well-balanced fresh produce, groceries and self-care items in our Food Pantry.

In our Dining Room, healthy meals are available for any guest who is hungry, 365 days per year for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. We served 103,000 fresh, culturally inclusive meals last year—a 63% increase from the previous year.

For women with housing who are struggling to put food on the table, our Food Pantry provides nutritious groceries, self-care products, and household goods. Our Pantry serves up to 350 women per day, Monday to Friday, and guests can visit weekly. With the high cost of food and holiday expenses, more and more women are relying on the groceries of Rosie’s Place’s Food Pantry for both a nutritional and financial supplement.

In addition to addressing food insecurity, Rosie’s Place provides a safe place to take shelter during the day, overnight shelter, and wellness services.

  • At Rosie’s Place, women can address emergency needs with access to showers, laundry, lockers, a phone and computer, and a way to privately receive mail. Our culturally conscious staff ensure that women have access to a range of self-care products and toiletries that help women maintain their dignity and self-confidence.
  • Our Overnight Program shelters 20 guests at a time for a 21-day stay, where they receive a comfortable place to rest and compassionate care as we support them in starting a path toward stability.
  • In our Wellness Center, guests have free access to healthcare providers and mental health support. The on-site Clinical Social Worker and our Recovery Support Navigator meet with our most vulnerable guests in need of mental health support, crisis intervention, recovery access, resources for ongoing therapy, and culturally-relevant support groups.

With your generosity through GlobalGiving, we are able to meet immediate needs of poor and homeless women in Boston and provide continued support to help them find stability. Thank you for supporting Rosie’s Place and helping to make our critical work possible.
