To sustain the general health of the community in Bangalore, India during times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aarogya Seva will be acquiring medical supplies from various sources to be distributed to health organizations working with vulnerable populations in need of access to general healthcare.
In the state of the lockdown, many marginalized communities do not have the income to purchase or access medical supplies such as medicines, cloth masks, sanitary products, etc. There are estimated 72.96 million cases of diabetes in adult population of India (INDIAB Study). Difficulty accessing pharmacies during this time poses both general health risks to individuals with chronic illnesses as well as difficulty maintaining the general health of individuals in marginalized communities.
Aarogya Seva has created and distributed a health-needs assessment of NGOs/Non-profits working in the medical space to better understand the health-focused resource needs of organizations during this time. Once the medical supply needs of the marginalized communities (such as slum dwellers, homeless individuals and daily-wage and migrant workers) have been identified by the NGOs, Aarogya Seva will supply these resources to NGOs to be distributed to communities in need.
It's critical that India's vulnerable populations are supported at this time, as they are being negatively affected the most economically and medically during this time. This project will ensure that 500 individuals from marginalized populations have the necessary medical resources to maintain quality healthcare.
