The National Migration Institute in Honduras recorded an all-time hIgh in August with 71,262 people, a weekly average of 17,262. In the municipality of Esquipulas, the situation is being overwhelmed due to the flow of migrants who, because of internal factors (lack of money to continue financing their journey) or external factors (limited number of means of transportation due to the influx of people) do not have the necessary resources to continue their journey
People's main needs include: water, sanitation and hygiene, food, health and protection services and shelter. Public health services do not have the capacity to serve these large population groups in terms of personnel, diagnostic resources and, especially, treatment resources. Moreover, in the case of people in transit, their priority is to continue their journey north and the fear of be detained means that they do not seek services even in case of emergency
People arriving on the route come in very deteriorated conditions. There are many vulnerable people with limited access to hygiene products such as diapers for babies or menstrual hygiene materials. We will distribute kits to children under 2 years of age and especially vulnerable adolescent and adult women with basic hygiene items. We will increase the mental and physical health consultations and capacity of our shelter facility services
The project's objective is to provide care to people in transit, with special attention to children and adolescents, who are cared for in temporary homes, community clinics, etc. This is an emergency project due to the current worsening of the Central American migratory crisis.
