Update: Mediterranean Wildfire Relief Fund

By Amelia Hoover | Program Manager, Disaster Response

Thank you for your generous donation to the GlobalGiving Mediterranean Wildfire Relief Fund! Donations to this GlobalGiving Fund are making a difference, helping to provide emergency relief and long-term support to affected communities in the Mediterranean.

Evacuations and needs relating to wildfires in the Mediterranean and surrounds remain an ongoing concern, and GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response Team continues to monitor for opportunities to support affected communities. Because our GlobalGiving Mediterranean Wildfire Relief Fund achieved very modest support, our team allocated resources in the Fund to a trusted GlobalGiving partner hard at work in support of affected communities in Greece, Emfasis Foundation, who shared that their street work teams and two mobile support units “have been on high alert since day one”, providing psychosocial services and distribution of bottled water, food, and survival kits to those affected.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Mediterranean Wildfire Relief Fund powers emergency response to communities that need it most, and truly makes a difference to community-based teams like Emfasis Foundation.

While this will be the last report of its kind on our Mediterranean Wildfire Relief Fund, we encourage you to support the important work of our partners at Emfasis, and to stay tuned to the GlobalGiving projects of Emfasis Foundation for additional opportunities to support this important work. As always, thank you for your support.

With gratitude,

Amelia Hoover + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
