ODIGUA Sowing Hope trains q'eqchi 'families, from the Alta Verapaz area, in agroecology and food issues to contribute to better family nutrition. And for them to improve their economy through the sale of the agro-ecological products they produce.
Guatemala is a country rich in natural resources. However, macroeconomic figures hide the social and economic inequalities that are extreme and condemn much of the country's youth and youth to a limited life due to the effects of malnutrition and lack of opportunities. The situation of poverty has deteriorated between 2006 and 2014, from 51% to 59%, and extreme poverty has grown from 15% to 23%, with the territories and populations most affected being rural and indigenous.
ODIGUA develops a training process on issues of agroecology, nutrition and food preparation, where families diversify their agricultural production and improve their diet, achieving a positive impact on family nutrition, and marketing the surplus of their agroecological production, in addition, the Families undertake small productive projects. As part of the project, families share their new knowledge with other neighboring families.
The project will impact 105 families from 7 q'eqchi 'communities, improving their nutrition and contributing to overcome poverty through the commercialization of agroecological products.
