Challenge

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a problem of the structure of the heart that is present at birth. It can affect how blood flows through the heart and out to the rest of the body. Common examples include holes in different areas of the heart and narrow or leaky valves. In children the most common type of CHD is the ventricular septal defect (VSD), a hole in the wall separating the bottom two chambers of the heart (the ventricles

Solution

Many Afghan infants with CHD require surgery to survive. FMIC is a place where CHD patients can find help and hope. Each year our team of experts performs more than 250 paediatric cardiac surgeries with almost 90% of these patients receiving financial assistance. FMIC is looking to help more infants suffering from CHD.

Long-Term Impact

The cost of surgeries at FMIC averages US$ 2,200 (less than 20% of comparable costs in USA) and our dedicated team of physicians and nurses achieve outcomes that meet international standards. With your help we can help save lives and bring happiness to families by supporting additional surgeries.
