Menstruation Education & Empowerment Workshops

Girl Now Woman Later believes that the end to period truancy and period poverty is still an ongoing issue. We are making a commitment to spread our message and make sure that schoolgirls get the education that they need to manage their periods. This is because basic knowledge of period management is an educational right not just because she is a girl, but because it is, overall, a human right.

With your generous donations, we are not only providing that knowledge. We have empowered these girls that having a period while going to school is not a defect to stay home. Rather, GNWL is instilling the important message that our periods are a superpower and that they are what our bodies biologically possess to continue
their growth and abilities.

We were also able to see attendance progress from parents who participated in our 2 workshops. Their presence made an impact on our goal to bring parents into the conversation about menstruation. We hope with this commitment to bridge the generational divide between mothers (and fathers) that were taught never to speak about menstruation. Thus, we hope to see more parents turning up and, as a result, helping them to become more comfortable talking about periods with their daughters, or any young female relatives.

From the two workshops, we received positive remarks from parents, school staff, and the girls. As you know, we always construct 2 workshop models, which are designated to different age groups of girls. Both of our workshops included an icebreaker question, a need assessment during the entire workshop delivery called the
The KWL in period, and a survey. Parents realized the need to inform girls how to manage their period is long overdue and they did admit their responsibilities in it. As for the girls, we learned that they too can now become advocates in passing the message to their friends who did not have the opportunity to participate.

We hope that if you read this, you can be proud that you are part of this and that every dollar from your contribution made it possible for us to deliver those workshops.

As Giving Tuesday approaches, I want to share an opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of girls in Burkina Faso through our WASH (Water, Access, Sanitation, Hygiene) campaign. This year, our goal is to raise $10,000 to build gender safe latrines in our partner schools where young girls currently lack access to safe as well as clean bathroom facilities.

Together, we can break down barriers on period truancy and empower girls to stay in school, succeed, and lead.

Thank you for considering this impactful way to give back on Giving Tuesday.

The team at GNWL is grateful for your generous contribution!

Stay tuned!
