We're on an exciting journey for 2025 as GNWL prepares to celebrate 5 years of founding, friendship, and family this April! Your donations kicked off our December 2024 workshop for over 130 high school girls, one of our biggest events to date. As of the end of 2024, we hosted a combined total of 12 workshops at 12 schools,serving over 1,080 girls and distributing 840+ feminine hygiene products. This week, we are hosting two more workshops and adding more girls to the sisterhood.
The first is with a hand-selected group of high school students at a private high school in Burkina Faso. This is very important to us because we held our first workshop at this school just a few years ago, and we are returning to bring the KWL workshop and bags of products to these students. You might be asking yourself, what goes in the bags you see in our photos? All high school girls leave the workshop with a bag of period products, like pads or menstrual cups (which we discuss during the workshop), undergarments like underwear and/or bras, and health an hygiene items like soap, deodorant, or toothbrushes. This is a critical part of the workshops! The girls are so excited about their new items and treasure the bags with our logo. You donations continue to supply workshop recipients with these bags, and they are making a difference in the lives of young girls.
Our second workshop this week is for elementary school girls in the capitol region of Burkina Faso. This is our third workshop for the 3 elementary schools of this district, and the excitement is growing among students, parents, teachers, and local officials. We promise to share more about the nearly 75 participants of the event. Girls in this age bracket have not started menstruating yet, so we celebrate the special workshop with a meal for the participants, and we hand out fresh notebooks and pencils to the students. They are encouraged to draw, dream, and celebrate their changing bodies.
