In The Gambia, many young girls experience period poverty. The most disadvantaged among them are unable to afford the cost of sanitary pads. This results in reduced school attendance during one's period, which negatively impacts academic work and results. The lack of access to sanitary pad can lead to infections that impair sexual health. The Gambian American Foundation aims to help 250 school age girls gain access to menstrual supplies on a regular basis, both at schools and at home.

The Gambian American Foundation aims to help school age girls gain access to menstrual supplies on a regular basis, both at schools and at home. Girls will be given sanitary pads so that they are able to maintain their sexual health and reduce their school absents. The girls will also be given knowledge on reproductive health and self-esteem building sessions.
The project aims to provide 250 girls regular access to pad at home and in school, which will help reduce their absence from school and maintain their academic performance.
