Introduction

In our mission to improve the delivery of mental health services and reduce stigma surrounding mental health, we have undertaken a comprehensive anti-stigma campaign. This campaign utilizes various educational tools, including brochures and posters, to raise awareness, combat misinformation, and provide insights into common mental disorders and management options. Our ultimate goal is to empower individuals, promote a supportive environment, and encourage people to seek proper mental health support.

Ongoing Activities

  1. Survey

We have collected data related to mental health using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) from the people living in informal settlement. It includes twelve questions that could be related to signs of common mental health disorders. We are in process to analyze the received data.

  1. In-depth interview

To have deep understanding and information about the mental health issues in the informal settlement, we conducted in-depth interviews with the people living in informal settlement. We mostly focused on people who have had such issues in the past to have more information related to mental health. The data collection has been completed and we have been translating the audio recordings. We will analyze the data using NVivo, a qualitative data analysis software.

  1. Distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials related to mental health.

In order to deliver information about mental health, we distributed different IEC materials like Pamphlets, posters to the people living in informal settlement. We adopted the IEC materials developed by TPO Nepal, an organization working in the sector of mental health.

  1. Psychosocial counselling training for Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs)

We have been conducting three-day psychosocial counselling training for the Female Community health Volunteers (FCHVs). Since FCHVs provide basic health information in the community, training them would help to deliver mental health related information in the community effectively.
