According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 4 people will have a mental disorder in their lifetime. It is estimated that the pandemic has increased the prevalence of depression and anxiety by 25/27% worldwide (UN 2022). The change we seek is to eliminate the barriers of accessibility to psychological services the deaf population faces in Colombia. In particular, your donation will support deaf youth get direct attention from psychologists competent in the Colombian Sign Language.
To reduce accessibility barriers to receive mental health services required by the deaf population at the prevention and intervention level in a timely, and with proper accommodations, manner. To increase and improve accessibility of mental health services for the deaf population, at the prevention and intervention level.
We want to readily be able to provide appropriate individual/group psychological counseling with professionals competent in the Colombian Sign Language. In addition, we want to implement preventive workshops addressing mood-alterations and mental-disorder triggers.
We will arm individuals with tools to better understand and deal with their condition, thus strengthening self-esteem and adequately managing emotions. We expect these interventions will result in improved adaptability to family/social environments and reduced isolation and self-injury risks.
