Duk County, located in Jonglei State of South Sudan, is facing a silent mental health crisis. Years of armed conflict, displacement, and trauma have left a population grappling with serious mental health and psychosocial challenges. This project, 'Strengthening Mental Health in Duk County,' seeks $ 14,500 to provide crucial services, including awareness campaigns, the training of 30 health workers, and counseling for 100 trauma-affected individuals and Construction of three Counseling Centers.
The population of Duk County is grappling with high levels of psychological trauma due to the cumulative effects of war, displacement, and lack of healthcare. Unfortunately, stigma, misinformation, and inadequate capacity of the health system have resulted in widespread neglect of mental health needs. Without intervention, the cycle of untreated trauma and psychosocial distress threatens long-term peace and recovery.
1. Awareness Campaigns: Conduct 5 culturally appropriate campaigns using drama, radio, and local influencers to promote understanding of mental health. 2. Training Health Workers: Train 30 health workers over 10 days in psychological first aid, trauma-informed care, and referral systems. 3. Counseling Services: Deploy trained staff to offer individual and group counseling for 100 identified clients. 4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop pre/post assessments to measure knowledge, attitude.
