This Program aims to provide extensive mental wellness awareness to young people in Rural Ghana through programs that take place outside of regular school hours. These Programs include; Our After School Sports Program and the Homework and Tuition Assistance where trained facilitators will integrate topics like stress management, character education and self care in these activities and participants willhave regular meetings with psychologists to help them cope with challenges and thrive mentally
Rural Ghanaian children (8-18 years) grapple with significant mental health challenges. Poverty, limited access to resources and support systems, and the isolation of rural life contribute to stress and anxiety. Exposure to trauma, including poverty, violence, and conflict, further impacts their well-being. Stigma surrounding mental health hinders help-seeking behavior, while a shortage of mental health professionals and mental wellness activities, limits access to care.
Impact Youth Foundation will provide a safe and structured environment for these children to engage in mental wellness activities. Our after School sports program fosters social interaction, reduces isolation, and promotes healthy stress management through physical activity and teamwork. Academic support enhances self-esteem and reduces academic-related stress, while the program's supportive atmosphere cultivates a sense of belonging and reduces feelings of loneliness.
By addressing mental health needs early on, it can break the cycle of intergenerational trauma and foster a more resilient community. Children who benefit from this program will grow into healthier adults with improved emotional regulation, stronger social connections, and a greater capacity to contribute positively to their communities. This will lead to reduced poverty, improved educational outcomes, and increased socio-economic development in the regions.
