“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you…” the refrain of this celebratory tune rang out while our young 1,000 Day graduate beamed with pride and then shyly hid her face in her father’s chest. Our Mercy in Action Midwives and Kasamas (companions) have walked with this family to keep this precious girl on the road to health, and they have all succeeded despite the challenges they faced. At two years of age, Juvanna is a healthy weigh for her age and continues to breastfeed while enjoying other healthy foods. She loves to run around and play with her siblings. She is at the age where she says funny little phrases and enjoys watching her family’s reactions.
This family doesn’t take any of these indications of their daughter’s health for granted, as so many children living in poverty do not meet milestones for health and neurological development, often are sickly, and many die before their 2nd birthday. The birthday cake is a gift from Mercy in Action to symbolize our love for the family and celebrate the way the family has invested in providing the very best for the First 1,000 Days of Juvanna’s life. Our Mercy in Action Midwives and Kasamas have encouraged and empowered the family to make choices that have brought them to this point and will shape the course of this child’s future.
Your generosity funds the work of Mercy in Action Midwives and Kasamas, who are walking with many families like this. Each donation you give impacts real families in a powerful way that shapes the next generation!
Thanks and love from the Mercy In Action team!
