Summary

The Solidarity Project supports Honduran leaders in creating positive social change in their community. Our Mesa Comunitaria micro-granting project cultivates and supports Honduran leaders in addressing pressing community problems. Together with the community, Honduras leaders design, select, and execute development projects. We are unique because we support Hondurans who do not generally have access to resources, or opportunities to implement their own ideas for change in their communities.

Challenge

Community Leaders in Honduras have the knowledge and vision to develop solutions for local problems, but often lack the partnership, capital, and skills to make their ideas a reality. Research indicates that with the provision of information, skills, and financial support, community leaders can effectively organize and address local problems. Our Mesa Comunitaria (MC) micro-grant project allows us to identify and support Honduran Leaders with ideas to improve their communities.

Solution

Inspired by the "Detroit SOUP" model, MC is a micro-granting project in which community leaders design, select, and execute development projects. We will support up to 30 projects during 2019-2020 in the Francisco Morazan region of Honduras. The centerpiece of MC is an event where community members pitch their ideas for social change, and those ideas are voted on by their fellow community members. The winning projects are implemented with the support of the community and TSP.

Long-Term Impact

The TSP MC migro-grant project will fund up to 30 community designed projects across the Francisco Morazan region of Honduras impacting over 3,000 people. In the past, TSP micro-grants have supported projects such as installing electricity in a community center, strengthening potable water systems, and making improvements to local school infrastructure. These projects improve Honduran communities, cultivate leaders, and give communities lasting tools to continue to create positive change.
