Training local women saving groups in Tororo

By Henry Okumu | Project Leader

Women Saving Groups Strengthen Household Food Security
During this reporting period, women saving groups continued to improve household food security among vulnerable families. Through regular savings contributions and access to affordable loans, women were able to invest in agricultural activities and small food-related businesses that increased food availability at home.
Many members used group loans to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools for the planting season. Others invested in poultry keeping, vegetable gardening, and livestock rearing. These activities contributed to increased food production and provided families with nutritious meals throughout the quarter.
Women reported that participation in savings groups helped them plan for seasonal food needs and reduce dependence on expensive market purchases. Several households experienced improved dietary diversity as a result of increased agricultural production and higher household income.
Group meetings also provided opportunities for members to exchange knowledge on nutrition, food preservation, and sustainable farming practices. The sharing of ideas encouraged innovation and strengthened community cooperation.
Community leaders observed a noticeable improvement in household stability among families participating in the savings groups. Women expressed pride in their ability to provide food for their children and contribute to family well-being.
The progress achieved demonstrates how collective savings can support both economic empowerment and food security. We are grateful to GlobalGiving donors whose continued support is helping women build stronger, healthier, and more resilient households.
