Training local women saving groups in Tororo

By Henry Okumu | Project Leader

Empowering Rural Women Through Entrepreneurship and Savings
Women from local saving groups in rural Tororo District participated in an entrepreneurship and savings training organized by AlliedAid Uganda. The activity was designed to equip women with practical skills for turning their savings into sustainable income-generating opportunities.
During the training, participants explored different small-business opportunities that can be started with limited capital. These included poultry farming, agricultural production, food processing, small retail businesses, tailoring, and other enterprises suited to the local community.
The trainers emphasized the importance of starting businesses based on local demand and available resources. Women were taught how to identify customers, calculate costs, determine reasonable prices, track profits, and reinvest part of their earnings. The training also highlighted the importance of separating business capital from personal household spending.
Savings were presented as the foundation for long-term financial stability. Participants were encouraged to maintain regular contributions to their groups and use group savings strategically to support members facing genuine financial needs or seeking productive loans.
The women also discussed challenges they commonly face, including limited access to capital, fluctuating household income, lack of business knowledge, and unexpected family expenses. The group setting provided an opportunity for participants to share ideas and learn from one another.
The training strengthened participants’ confidence in managing small enterprises and using savings as a tool for economic growth. AlliedAid Uganda hopes that continued support will enable more women in rural Tororo to build resilient businesses, increase household income, and improve the wellbeing of their families.
