Midwest US Flood Relief Fund

Summary

Deadly floods and severe weather continue to threaten the Midwest, including communities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota. Several people have been killed, hundreds of homes have been destroyed, and thousands are now displaced. Your support of the Midwest Flood Relief Fund will provide emergency relief and long-term support to the most-affected communities.

Challenge

Millions of people across several Midwest US states are suffering from back-to-back catastrophic weather events, including tornadoes, floods, and heat waves. Key infrastructure, including dams and bridges, has been damaged or is now at critical risk of failing. The situation is expected to worsen, with dozens of rivers forecasted to flood in addition to the dozens that have already overflowed.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support storm and flood impacted communities in the Midwest region of the United States, with a priority focus on the most disadvantaged and overlooked communities. The fund will help meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. It will also support longer-term recovery efforts led by local, vetted organizations in impacted areas, particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Midwest Flood Relief Fund Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary shelter and emergency supplies to displaced families
  • Provide support to front-line workers, such as meals and gas
  • Meet other key needs as they emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
