In collaboration with Asociacion de Mujeres Altiplano (AMA), HSP started a new project centered around supporting new mothers and their infants. By providing services and resources to rural communities with high infant and maternal mortality rates, we work to provide better healthcare and support systems.
With our women's circles, members develop both their mental and spiritual well-being. This mutual support provides the opportunity to share struggles with others in the community. With the program acting as a form of group therapy, women can relearn how to depend on others in their community and strengthen bonds with those around them. Donations allow for these circles to take place and provide any needed materials.
The Mayan K'iche term "Ixo'q Tob'anel" means woman who helps and that is precisely what our doulas do. By providing workshops on prenatal care, breastfeeding, and breathing techniques, they provide women with needed support. With your support, we can provide doulas with training and educational materials to share with the women who participate in the workshops.
Your contributions to this project give us the chance to make a difference in the lives of new mothers and their babies. As we continue this project, we hope to expand our scope to include more doulas and community assistance.
