This Autumn Generating Genius has hosted a range of successful events.
To start off the term we provided support for students in Year 13, preparing to make university applications. Year 13 students intending to apply to Oxbridge universities - or to highly selective universities across the country - recieved expert advice from university admissions staff. We were supported by staff from the University of Bath, Imperial College London and the independent school sector to deliver this programme. Sessions focussed on “how to write a personal statement” and “understanding the Oxbridge applications process”, for example.
During the recent October half-term we ran a selection of events including an immersive asteroid emergency survival challenge with Thinkers in Education, science masterclasses at L’Oreal Young Scientist Centre and a visit to the Battle of Ideas, an event full of Science, Engineering & Technology debates.
With support from companies such as Barclays and Buzzacott, we have hosted after-school sessions introducing the banking, finance and accountancy sectors. The sessions allowed students to meet professionals who began their careers studying a variety of STEM subjects such as science and engineering.
Lastly, Thanks to our growing partnership with Latymer Upper School, we also delivered our first “Professional Skills” workshops for 42 students in year 10, to help them develop personal attributes such as confidence, professionalism and emotional intelligence.
Thank you to the many partners who work with us to deliver amazing opportunities for young people across London. We look forward to more exciting events in Spring 2018.
