Summary

This project will provide direct and immediate assistance to 10 indigenous communities in the Lacandon Jungle in Chiapas, Mexico. The objective is to provide supplies for personal hygiene, disinfectants, masks, water and food, as well as support for garden work, as preventive measures and contributing to the long-term economic and nutritional recovery for families.

Challenge

The health emergency due to COVID-19 puts indigenous peoples at greater risk due to their levels of poverty, marginalization and the lack of information in their mother tongue. In addition to this, they have underlying diseases caused by poor eating habits, their economic inability to access a better quality of life, as well as the few opportunities they have to access health services. With your contribution, Xilotl A.C will deliver sanitary, disinfectant and food supplies to 10 indigenous communities in the Lacandon Jungle. The local economy and food security will be strengthened through the delivery of necessary inputs for garden work. We will launch an internal campaign led by previously trained indigenous women who will organize the distribution of goods among families and who, through a communication network established with organization staff, will inform the community o

Long-Term Impact

We will help 300 indigenous and rural families overcome the threat of the coronavirus by using communication, prevention and awareness, mitigating the risk of mortality from acquiring the disease and equipping them with the necessary supplies to maintain adequate hygiene and nutrition.
