Challenge

The pregnant women in our program hail from the poorest labor communities in the villages of Tamil Nadu, India and they belong to BPL (Below Poverty Line: less than $ 2 income per day per family) families. At present, there is no work for those families due to the COVID-19 crisis. They find it difficult to have iron & vitamin rich-nutritious food for themselves. They fear that lack of nutrition may lead to anemia, miscarriages, hypertension, fetal deaths during pregnancy, and maternal mortality.

Solution

We provide- through our mobile vegetable bank- those pregnant women with eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables like dates, pomegranate, apple, amla (gooseberry), greens, curry leaves, lemon, carrot, beetroot, drumstick etc., on a regular basis. We constantly keep a watch on their Hb (Hemoglobin) level, weight, and other vital indicators for a safe and healthy pregnancy. We ensure regular medical check-ups for them and motivate them to be fearless and happy during their pregnancy and delivery.

Long-Term Impact

The project will ensure happy pregnancy and safe delivery to 150 poor pregnant women who will otherwise have been deprived of the same - due to their poor economic background. This project will also ensure 150 babies with the right birth weights, free from any mental and physical disorders. The significant long-term impact would be 150 healthy and productive children for this world
