Happy New Year, Friends and Followers:

We are off and running for what we feel will be an incredibly new year! There is great optimism in the organization and Liberia as a whole as a new administration was voted into office as Liberians went to the polls and elected a new President of the Country. This incoming administration will make health care one of its main priorities in its budget. It would mean that IHI has a partner in government that will make for a proactive health sector to work with, as there is tremendous energy in the air.

Our clinic will operate under a revised total COVID Protocol as the incidence of COVID-19 in the country is increasing in specific sectors. Mask protocols and hand washing continues for all patients and staff.

Health Talks and Seminars continue weekly to teach good health practices to prevent all sicknesses and diseases in addition to COVID-19.

Imani House, Inc. celebrates its 30+ years of providing quality, affordable healthcare (through its Liberia-based Imani House Clinic) to marginalized communities in Monrovia, Liberia. Honoring our moral and ethical mandate to provide affordable healthcare often supersedes the realities of raising funds and material support to sustain this effort. Our thanks go to partners and staff in and out of Liberia.  In observance of UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE DAY, Imani House Clinic provided FREE blood glucose and pressure screenings to the general public. The average cost of clinic-based blood glucose testing is USD 10.00, and seventy percent of Liberia’s populace can barely afford this cost. Imani House is committed to exploring creative and innovative methods to honor our moral and ethical mandate to ensure everyone can get the health services they need without financial hardship #HealthforAll.

SUCCESS STORY:

"One of the good things I can still remember about my job at Imani House in the 90s, specifically in 1996, was when we had the internally displaced people (IDPs) camp at Jah Tondo Town, Brewerville.

It happened that a patient gave birth at home (home delivery) and started bleeding profusely, and her husband rushed to our clinic seeking help. Immediately, the late Grace Wesseh, the midwife at the time, and I followed him. Upon arrival, we closely examined the patient. We found out that she had placenta previa, and because she was bleeding and needed surgery, we had to refer her to the Redemption Hospital located a dist. Fortunately for her, the founder of Imani House and the Executive Director, Mrs. Bisi Ideraabdullah, came after us with her car, and the vehicle was used to rush the patient (Mrs Gray) to Redemption Hospital, our referral hospital.

At Redemption Hospital, she underwent surgery and gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. The child was named after the husband of Imani House founder/executive director as a sign of appreciation for Imani House.

After many years,  then recently, our patient's husband, Mr. Gray, returned to the Imani Clinic to once again thank the two nurses, the Executive Director whose car was used, and the rest of the clinic staff for making him a father. He said, "Had it not been for the medical care and love of the Imani Clinic Staff, his wife and son wouldn't have been alive today. But, unfortunately for him, the late Sis. Grace, the midwife, is no more, and he regrettably expressed his condolences to the Imani House Family and the family members of the late Ma Grace.

Mr. Gray also informed us that his son, Mahmoud, is a grown-up young man attending the University of Liberia. Mahmoud is a senior student at UL. He concluded thanks to Imani House and those who continuously support {Imani House."

There are many more success stories like the above, Sis. Annie has relayed this to us. Occasionally, we will continue to share more of these testimonials with you.

Thank you for taking the time to read our update, and as always, our gratitude again for your support and prayers. Let us continue to fight illiteracy and alleviate poor health conditions in Liberia! Have the best year you could have!
