By Bisi Ideraabdullah | Executive Director
Thanks so much for your caring and generosity. Thanks to your support, Imani House has been able to continue to provide health care to those most in need, the women and children of Liberia. We have not skipped a beat and have upgraded our services as we advance our support of the Liberian health care system. This is made possible by people like yourself, our staff, members, and our Ministry of Health
Everyone is excited; our two beautiful ambulances have arrived, cleared customs and are ready for use! Our triage center renovation is complete to roof level, and we will soon install solar for electricity to allow for more lighting, refrigeration and fans.
While we were elated when Liberia became Ebola free we expected that the crisis was not over as long as Sierra Leone and Guinea, the countries that border Liberia, were still experiencing new cases. We are all saddened by the news of a 17 year old boy who recently died from Ebola, and of his friend who is now infected. The Ministry and it's international partners are doing a good job of screening all of the victim's contacts to locate the source and curtail another disaster.
Imani House is ready to outfit, insure, support and put our ambulances into action. One ambulance will be used as a Mobile Health Unit. It will go in to more remote areas to offer health care and health education. The other one will be on standby for transporting patients from our area to distant hospitals, or made available to these hospitals for transporting patients when needed.
Remaining vigilant, continuing public education and of course having the clinic, triage center and ambulances to transport patients to nearby hospitals, allows Imani House to remain in a state of preparedness. We are working closely with the City Mayor of Brewerville, the local community leaders, and the Ministry of Health to assure that we can support and assist all efforts that will avoid Ebola spreading through Liberia ever again.
Two weeks ago the Imani House executive director was invited to speak at the InterAction Conference in Washington DC. She spoke to the success and constraints that were presented in response to the Ebola crisis and how important it is for International donors to adopt local on the ground partners before and during disasters for greater success and sustainability of efforts.
We thank you on behalf of the Brewerville community we serve and our staff for contributing to the fight against Ebola, and better health for all Liberians. We will update you on our progress. Help us spread the word and tell a friend. We hope you will continue to support our important efforts to make Liberia a healthier place for all. Contributions are always welcome!
Warmest wishes,
