CAST-Kenya plans to provide relief food hampers for three month to 400 families that have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the Outbreak of COVID-19 across many parts of the world. It was just a matter of time, then Kenya announced its first case on the 13th of March. Since then, the livelihood of many families were affected. As an organisation we felt, we could help those families who are unable to feed their families because of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
There are more than 400 families who have lost their livelihood because of economic challenges that came along as a result of COVID-19 Impact in Huruma area and its outskirts. Some are laid off from their employment while others with small business are forced to close them down because most of community members have no purchasing power because lack of sufficient income to support their families.
Firstly, this project will provide food aid to 400 vulnerable and needy families in this informal settlement during this pandemic period in the next six months. Secondly, the project will cushion these families hence giving them opportunities to plan on how they can resume earning their livelihood by starting their small businesses again. Thirdly, the opportunity will help them integrate into our entrepreneurial training program. This will enhance their skills in planning and budget making.
Firstly, This project will educate these 400 families on the importance of keeping themselves and their families safe during the pandemic. Secondly, they will be integrated into our business training skills in which they will be trained with skills of planning, budget makings, savings and so on. This will provide this families with necessary skills to employ in their businesses when they resume.
