Monthly Scholarship Program for Poor School Children – Sri Lanka
2. Introduction / Background
Education is one of the most powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty. However, many school children in Sri Lanka face financial difficulties that prevent them from accessing basic educational needs such as books, stationery, uniforms, transport, and extra classes.
To support these children and encourage them to continue their education, our organization has launched a Monthly Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance to poor school children across Sri Lanka.
3. Project Description
Currently, this project supports 50 school children from different parts of Sri Lanka.
Each selected child receives a monthly scholarship of LKR 5,000 to help cover their educational and basic needs.
This financial assistance is aimed at reducing the burden on families and motivating children to continue their schooling without interruption.
4. Objectives of the Project
To support poor school children with monthly financial assistance
To reduce school dropouts due to financial difficulties
To help children meet basic educational needs (books, stationery, uniforms, transport, classes, etc.)
To encourage continuous school attendance and better academic performance
To promote equal access to education across Sri Lanka
5. Beneficiaries
Number of children: 50
Location: Selected areas across Sri Lanka
Target group: Poor and vulnerable school children from low-income families
Children are selected based on financial background, school verification, and genuine need.
6. Scholarship Details
Scholarship amount per child: LKR 5,000 per month
Total monthly support:
50 × 5,000 = LKR 250,000 per month
Purpose of funds:
School books and stationery
Uniforms and shoes
Transport expenses
Educational support and basic needs
7. Implementation Plan
Identify deserving children through schools, community leaders, and family background checks
Verify student details and obtain school confirmation
Register beneficiaries under the program
Disburse the scholarship monthly
Maintain proper records of payments and beneficiaries
Regularly communicate with parents and schools to track progress
8. Monitoring and Evaluation
Monthly follow-ups with parents/guardians
Periodic confirmation from schools about attendance and progress
Maintain beneficiary files with student details and payment history
Review the program every 6 months to assess impact and improvements
