The project seeks to raise funds to do community awareness on dangers of FGM, child marriages and teenage pregnancies among young girls in volatile Mt Elgon. We also aim at sponsoring 20 victims of child marriage and teenage pregnancies to continue with their studies. Additionally, we seek to raise funds to undertake entrepreneurial training as well as economic empowerment of the victims of FGM, child marriage and teenage pregnancies.
Increased cases of teenage pregnancy among school going students has led to resurgence of FGM, and consequently child marriage in Mt Elgon. Many girls' dreams have been killed, since parents are unwilling to take the girls back to school. As a matter of fact, many girls have lost their lives as a result of trying to procure unsafe abortion. As such, an urgent intervention is needed to save our girls.
The project will conduct awareness and sensitization to the whole community, highlighting the dangers of FGM, and the need to support education of the girl child as opposed to marrying them off early. Additionally, the project seeks to sponsor 20 girls who have dropped out of school as a result of either of these vices. This will prove to the society that it is possible for a girl to continue with her education even after giving birth.
We look forward to reducing and eliminating cases of teenage pregnancies, FGM and child marriage. Additionally, we intend to build a strong economically empowered generation of girls and women who will defend their rights. We seek to eliminate any case of deaths as a result of unsafe abortion in addition to spurring successful businesses run by women and girls.
