Worldwide Day of Play kids discovery kit items

Dear valued donors,

We are thrilled to share with you the incredible success of the recent Worldwide Day of Play event and the positive impact it had on families in the US Virgin Islands. Thanks to your generous support, the event was a resounding success, and families absolutely loved the free At Home Discovery Kits they received.

The 10th At Home Discovery Kit, themed around celestial bodies, was launched at the 2025 Our World: Worldwide Day of Play on September 27, 2025. This event, in partnership with Nickelodeon, aimed to promote active play and joyful learning for children and families worldwide. Your contributions played a crucial role in making this event possible and ensuring that every child in the US Virgin Islands has access to educational opportunities.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to experience interactive demonstrations and performances by local community partners, including U.S. Fish and Wildlife, The Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service, and receive a free At Home Discovery Kit to continue their learning journey at home.

We are immensely grateful for your dedication to our mission and for being a part of this important work. Your support has made a significant difference in the lives of children in the US Virgin Islands, and we could not have achieved this success without you.

Dear Donors,

We want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous contributions to the Museum Inclusion Fund, which supports access and inclusion for all community members at the Virgin Islands Children's Museum (VICM). Your support plays a vital role in providing opportunities for children and families to explore, play, and discover in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

We are honored to participate in the Blue Star Museums program, a national initiative that offers free admission to active duty military personnel and their families during the summer months. This program is a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across the country, including the VICM. It aims to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families and provide them with enriching experiences at museums and cultural institutions.

Your donations help us extend this opportunity to military families in the US Virgin Islands, allowing them to enjoy all that the VICM has to offer at no cost to them. Family Reading Promotes Early Childhood Literacy

Thank you for your dedication to this important cause and for being a part of our mission to promote literacy and education in the United States Virgin Islands. Your support is truly valued and appreciated. One of the programs the Museum Inclusion Fund supports is the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum (VICM) Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Program.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of their family's income. Founded by country music icon Dolly Parton, the program aims to foster a love for reading and improve literacy skills in young children. By providing age-appropriate books directly to children's homes, we encourage parents and caregivers to read with their children, promoting early childhood literacy and preparing children for success in school and beyond.

Each affiliate of DPIL pays for the books, which cost approximately $2.60 per book for 60 months (birth to age 5) for an estimated $156 per child. The VICM is the local affiliate in the USVI where there are currently 885 children registered (583 in St. Croix, 29 in St. John, and 273 in St. Thomas), and 1,428 children have graduated from the program since it was established in 2017. The distribution of 61,385 books in the USVI via the VICM-DPIL program is a testament to the positive influence this initiative has had on the community. These numbers represent real children who now have access to high-quality, age-appropriate books that can ignite their imaginations and foster a love for reading.

While the Imagination Library negotiates wholesale pricing for the books, the local affiliates such as the VICM are responsible for securing funds to cover that cost. We want to express our sincere appreciation for your support of the ongoing Museum Inclusion Fund GlobalGiving Campaign #65995 which supports the VICM’s Imagination Library Program. Your continued contributions are vital in ensuring that children in the USVI have the resources they need to thrive and succeed. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of children in our community.
