To visually impaired people, music is a way to explore and sense the world. More importantly, music helps them feel more confident and socially accepted. The Music for Bulgaria foundation has created an adapted music education program that encourages visually impaired children to see through music. The program offers scholarships for music training and mentorship.
The problem has 3 aspects: In Bulgaria, children with impaired are often socially isolated and neglected. Music helps such people grow as individuals and provides them with career opportunities, however, there are no programs which encourage this development. Also, many of the families with blind children have insufficient income and are not able to afford music education. Further, tutors need special training in order to be able to work with children with impaired vision
Music for Bulgaria has developed a music education program for blind children and has trained teachers to meet the needs of this group. A full scholarship for music education is offered to blind children from families with insufficient income. The program has already been tested and delivered to 19 children. Music develops invaluable personal qualities and skills, including confidence, creativity, discipline, and much more. All of them increase the quality of life of blind people significantly
The Music for Bulgaria foundation believes that each visually impaired child can succeed, if they are supported, motivated, and allowed access to learning opportunities. By continuing to improve our teaching program, we plan to turn the project into an annual scholarship program and support the musical development of hundreds of children.
