On 28 March, a powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar, affecting over six million people. Your generosity has allowed us to respond rapidly in some of the hardest-hit and most vulnerable areas. Working through our trusted local networks in Sagaing, already affected by conflict, we have reached more than 260 displaced families in Mingun and Sagaing city with emergency cash, food, clean water, shelter materials, and hygiene supplies. A fantastic group of nuns have built 12 large shelters to withstand the monsoon, see photo below.
We’ve also supported religious schools sheltering hundreds of people, and distributed essential kits with mosquito nets, blankets, cooking utensils and food parcels to families who had lost everything. One father told us, “This package is precious. Now we can survive.”
Sagaing is a center of resistance to the coup, and military junta prevents big international agencies reaching these communities. With little other aid reaching these areas, your donation has been absolutely vital. We are now preparing a second round of relief, focusing on relocation support and long term shelter for over 1,300 people. Your support is not just keeping people alive, it’s giving them hope.
