Thank you very much for your continued understanding and support of Terra Renaissance's activities.
We are currently in the Sagaing region of Myanmar, which has been one of the hardest-hit areas by the earthquake. More than two weeks have passed since the magnitude 7.7 earthquake on the 28th of March, yet the devastation it left behind remains profound and unimaginable.
A Heartbreaking Sight beyond Words
This time, the survey focused primarily on the epicenter of the earthquake, an area that sustained particularly heavy damage (the specific place name is avoided for safety reasons).
In District A, approximately 80% of the structures have been reduced to rubble, leaving an overwhelming impression of everything having been crushed. Brick buildings were particularly devastated, standing as stark and dreadful remnants.
In District B, despite the smaller number of collapsed buildings, the impact represented a significant economic blow. The destruction of vital commercial buildings, the engine of the local economy, triggered widespread unemployment and left numerous individuals without a means of support as they have lost everything.
District C witnessed the widespread collapse of religious structures such as temples, leaving communities bereft of vital places of spiritual solace. Residential building collapse was also severe, forcing a large number of people into displacement and temporary shelter.
Dire Humanitarian Crisis
This earthquake has tragically claimed many lives. While the officially reported death toll stands at 590, the actual number is likely to be significantly higher.
Conditions in the shelters are critical, with shortages of food, water, and medicine. Sanitation is also deteriorating rapidly, making the elderly and children particularly vulnerable and in grave danger.
Barriers to Aid
Currently, international aid efforts are significantly hampered by military checkpoints and other obstacles. The frustrating reality continues, with vital aid being blocked from reaching those who desperately need it.
Yet, There is Hope
Even under these circumstances, local people are demonstrating incredible resilience, helping and supporting each other. We are committed to providing as much support as we can, in cooperation with our trusted local partner organisations.
We need your support
Our capacity to act on the ground in Myanmar is severely restricted at this time. However, your generous support will enable us to reach and help more people.
Your compassionate support will directly provide essential food, water, and medical supplies to those who are in urgent need. Your kindness will also enable us to establish and maintain vital evacuation centres, offering immediate comfort and safety during this crisis, and take the first steps towards long-term recovery.
Future activities
We will keep you updated on our future research activities and the progress of our assistance.
Your compassionate support during this critical time is deeply appreciated and will make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected.
P.S.
If this blog resonates with you in any way, we would be grateful if you could share it. Let the world know the depth of this crisis and the urgent need for international assistance. Every share and every voice raised brings us one step closer to reaching those who are desperately waiting for immediate support.
