Dear Donors,
We would like to update you on the progress of the partnership between YouMeWe NPO and Nagareyama LEAD.
We continue to work with Nagareyama L.E.A.D throughout the month of September under our Skills for Pros pillar to help institutionalized youth develop entrepreneurial skills and explore their potential as future leaders.
Through this interactive programme, participants worked on developing their own business ideas by identifying real-world problems and creating entrepreneurial solutions. The experience encourages critical thinking, self-discovery, and business confidence, allowing young people to recognise their strengths and develop practical skills.
These opportunities provide a valuable foundation as young people prepare for life beyond care, equipping them with the confidence and problem-solving abilities needed to navigate adulthood.
We extend our sincere thanks to both our donors and Nagareyama L.E.A.D. for supporting the young people in our community.
Supporting Emotional Well-Being and Communication
Helping young people prepare for adulthood involves more than developing practical and professional skills. It also means creating safe spaces where they can express their feelings and learn to communicate with confidence.
Through our interactive workshops, volunteers work alongside young people in care to explore emotions and interpersonal relationships. One activity invites participants to consider a simple but meaningful question: “What would need to happen for that uncomfortable feeling to go away?” They are then presented with two possible responses: being ignored by someone older or being spoken to with kindness.
Although the question may seem straightforward, having the opportunity to identify emotions, discuss uncomfortable experiences, and explore supportive responses can be particularly meaningful for young people growing up in institutional care.
Our volunteers help facilitate these conversations by showing up consistently, listening without judgment, and encouraging young people to express themselves. Being able to put feelings into words can bring relief while helping participants develop communication skills they can carry into adulthood.
These skills are especially important for young people transitioning out of care, who may face challenges navigating workplace relationships, social situations, and personal boundaries. Workshops that encourage emotional expression and open dialogue can help them better understand their feelings, communicate their needs, and build healthier relationships.
Having a trusted adult who is willing to listen can make a significant difference in helping a young person feel heard, understood, and secure.
Looking Ahead
Through initiatives like our collaboration with Nagareyama L.E.A.D. and our ongoing interactive workshops, we aim to support young people in developing the practical, emotional, and interpersonal skills they need to thrive independently. By investing in both entrepreneurial confidence and emotional well-being, we help young people build a stronger foundation for their transition into adulthood.
Again, a huge thank you to our supporters and to Nagareyama L.E.A.D., for believing in these kids alongside us. Partnerships like this make all the difference.
