By Kathy Duncan | Director, National Programs
Hello,
Thanks to your support, important progress is being made through our National Animal Emergency Response program. We partnered with Mars PetCare, helping us build a strong foundation for national collaboration and preparedness.
Since our last update, we convened a working group that includes 19 cross sectoral and external members, bringing together expertise to strengthen how animal welfare organizations respond in times of need. This working group has met six times and is actively developing a standardised response protocol that can be shared with Humane Societies and SPCAs for their adaptation and use.
To ensure our efforts are grounded in real needs, we conducted a survey of Humane Canada members and associates. The results are allowing us to identify gaps in knowledge, training, and resources so we can work strategically to address them. We also coordinated the provision of Incident Command System Level 100 training to over 50 people in 12 Humane Canada member organisations.
In addition, we have developed an online digital platform to house resources and host a communications network. This platform will allow animal welfare organizations being asked to respond in their communities to connect with other similar organizations in real time, improving coordination and outcomes for pets and the people who love them.
We thank you for your ongoing support of our National Animal Emergency Response Program, your donation to Humane Canada is truly valued.
