With our scholarship project it is often a stop start project as we noticed this is one of the hardest projects to fundraise for as most people like to donate to community or conservation projects with a clear sustainable goal.
But what makes our scholarship program different is that we offer scholarships to local people that really are beyond their biggest dream. We find community members that might have just burst the poverty cycle but still live day to day and that effort and dedication to fight that cycle is what makes them a born leader for change.
Working with these people we give scholarships for locals to learn locally and a very recent success is about to begin as we finally have enough funds for another scholarship. We will be working with a young local south african girl that wants to setup her own projects and so to do this we will be funding her to go to business school for 2 years, we are funding 50% of the fees and she has been working hard to fundraise for the rest and we are confident that she will change the community so watch this space!
We also provided a scholarship to a local woman in Africa to be taught as a sewing teacher and she is now successfully employed, we want to start providing scholarships to women we work with in Africa and India but we must first return to the difficult task of fundraising.
We have really seen communities change from this program and I reconnected with one of our first scholars about 10 years ago and he is now a manager at a game reserve in Hoedspruit. He started by a game drive with the community having no idea but fell in love and we supported with FAGASA training and now he supports his whole family and has grown to an influential role that allows him to give back to the community. He is also leading an initative to bring local school children into reserves to learn about the Big 5.
Thank you for changing their lives!
