The lockdown in Nepal by the central government has ended after four months but some parts of Nepal is still in lockdown due to the increased level of confirmed cases. Four months and more without any income the poorest families in rural villages are in extremely difficult situation. They have lived half empty stomach for months and, now the poorest families have to live with the costliest debts for a long time.
Through this project, we have provided essential grocery support to one-hundred and forty-two families in Mahadewa municipality of Saptari district Nepal. One hundred and seven of them are the family of the girls who are being sponsored to receive a formal education through the Girls’ Education Project in Nepal. The remaining thirty-five families are from the same municipality and are in a similar situation of the girls’ families. The grocery supply was aimed to last for one month.
We provided the following goods as part of the essential grocery support; 10kg half-boiled rice, 1kg lentil, 1kg green peas, 1kg salt, 1kg Swebean (dried veg), 3kg Rice-flakes, 1ltr sunflower cooking oil, 2 pcs lifeboy soap and Rs 500 cash for fresh vegetables per family. Total spending on the project so far is Rs 373,475 rupees which is roughly $3,300 or £2,480. We have used the funds from the NVF Pots and now we have to fundraise to balance the pot.
